Awesome article! I love how you match a personal story with a major concept related to progress.
By sheer coincidence, I was in Montreal for that event. I was living in Boston at the time, but I decided to celebrate New Years in Montreal with a group of people. I remember sitting in the window of a high-rise hotel watching the intersection below me.
I am not exaggerating. Every third car completely spun out and slid sideways out of the intersection. It was like watching a demolition derby but with involuntary contestants. Very entertaining and scary at the same time.
The entire region was shut down for days. Ironically, it worked out well for us as the hotel gave us free nights for the following days because they knew no guests could get in or out.
By the way, welcome to the Progress Studies community!
I have been on the outskirts of the community for a few years. I mainly focus on writing books rather than social media, so that is why you may not have heard of me.
Just so you know, I am offering free digital copies of my two books on Progress to all Progress Studies Fellows. If you are interested, please subscribe to my Substack column. As long as I can figure out which is your email address from your name, I will be able to email you copies.
Below is a link to my books so you can see if you find them interesting:
Thank you Michael for the kind words! And thank you for the first-hand story, I can only imagine how wild it must have been. I'm glad to hear you were safe in the hotel.

Got back to Boston many days later.
Keep up the good work!
